A few months ago we finished work with a lovely couple who were ready for a big change in their garden. Their old layout wasn’t giving them the space they wanted, and they had a really clear vision:
- a modern, practical garden
- somewhere they could relax and entertain
- a space that felt connected to their home, not separate from it.
We loved the brief, and their excitement to handpick all their materials, so we couldn’t wait to get stuck in!

Re-shaping the existing space and laying the foundations
Their existing garden had an awkward layout and lines that didn’t flow. We knocked down the old retaining wall to extend the patio area and rebuilt the walls to retain the higher tier of their space. We finished the walls with black slate cladding and the same paving we had lined up for the patio to keep everything cohesive. The contrast between the two materials giving a clean and contemporary look.

Patio Rebuild & Extension
The original patio didn’t work for them anymore, so we rebuilt and extended the whole thing using Kandla Grey paving. Once we finished it with Flowpoint grout, it had that sharp, modern, seamless look that completely changes the space. Not only does it look great now, but it’s going to stay that way for years.

Bull-Nosed Steps
The steps leading to the upper level of the garden needed to be safe and stylish, so we chose bull-nosed steps. The couple wanted to handle the installation of the lighting themselves, so we installed the conduit straight into the steps to make it easy for them.
Seeing the steps lit up on completion, absolutely worth the extra effort.
New Lawn, Planting & Gravel Areas
Once the main structure was in place, it was time to bring the garden to life.
We laid a fresh new lawn and added gravel sections, leaving the client to work their magic with some plants to soften the hard landscaping and add colour, texture, and character.

The Result? A Complete Transformation
This garden looks so different to when we first arrived but most importantly it now works perfectly for this couple. Hearing them say it feels like an extension of their home was some of the best feedback we could have hoped for.
